Affiliate Disclosure
Some links on WanderEthic are affiliate links. We want to explain exactly what that means and how it shapes (and doesn’t shape) our coverage.
What an affiliate link is
An affiliate link is a tracked link that lets a retailer know a visitor came from our site. If you click one of these links and buy something, the retailer pays us a small commission. The price you pay is the same as if you went directly to the retailer.
How we choose what to link
We only link to products our editors have used themselves on real trips. If we wouldn’t recommend the item to a friend planning a trip next week, it doesn’t go in an article, and it definitely doesn’t get an affiliate link.
We never write an article around an affiliate product. The article comes first; if a product we already use fits naturally, we link to it. If it doesn’t, no link.
Programs we participate in
We are participants in several affiliate programs across travel gear retailers, sustainable brands, and a small number of booking platforms. The full list changes occasionally; the principle does not, we link to things we actually use.
What you can expect
- Clear disclosures at the top of any article that includes affiliate links.
- The same recommendation whether a link is affiliate or not. Our coverage doesn’t change based on commission rates.
- An explicit “we tested this” or “we’ve been using this for X” statement on any recommended product.
- No tracking pixels embedded in articles for parties you didn’t expect.
Why we use them
Independent publishing is expensive. Affiliate commissions help us pay our contributors fairly, keep the site running, and avoid switching to a model that would compromise the editorial product (intrusive ads, paywalls, sponsored content). It’s the cleanest form of revenue we’ve found for a small, reader-funded publication.
If you’d rather not
If you’d prefer not to use an affiliate link, simply search for the product name directly, you’ll get the same item, at the same price, without supporting our coverage. We don’t mind. The articles are still free either way.
