Privacy Policy
1. Information We Collect
Information you provide directly
When you interact with the Site, you may choose to provide us with information such as:
- Your name and email address when you subscribe to our newsletter.
- Your name, email, subject, and message when you write to us through the Contact form.
- Any comments, corrections, or feedback you submit on articles.
Information collected automatically
When you visit the Site, our servers and the analytics services we use record standard technical information such as:
- Your IP address and approximate geographic location (city/region level).
- Your browser type, operating system, device type, and screen size.
- The pages you visit, the time of your visit, time spent on each page, and the referring URL.
We use this information only in aggregate to understand how the Site performs, detect abuse, and improve our editorial coverage.
2. Cookies and Similar Technologies
We use a small number of cookies and similar technologies for the following purposes:
- Strictly necessary cookies, required for the Site to function (for example, remembering your cookie preferences).
- Analytics cookies, privacy-respecting analytics that help us understand how visitors use the Site. These cookies only set after you accept them via our consent banner.
- Advertising cookies, set by third-party advertising partners (see Section 3 below). These also require your consent before being placed.
You can manage cookies at any time through your browser settings. Disabling cookies will not prevent you from reading articles, but it may limit certain personalized features.
3. Third-Party Services and Advertising
To keep the Site running and free to read, we work with a small set of third-party services. Each has its own privacy policy, and we encourage you to review them:
- Analytics provider, used to measure traffic and improve content. Aggregate, non-identifying data only.
- Email service provider, used to send the newsletter you signed up for.
- Content delivery network (CDN), used to serve images and assets quickly across regions.
- Google AdSense and other advertising partners (including Google and its certified partners), may serve advertisements on the Site. These partners use cookies, web beacons, and similar technologies to measure ad performance and, where you have consented, to show advertising relevant to your interests on this Site and across the web.
We do not sell your personal information.
Google AdSense and the DoubleClick DART cookie
Google, as a third-party vendor, uses cookies to serve ads on the Site. Google’s use of advertising cookies enables Google and its partners to serve advertisements to visitors based on their visit to this and other sites on the Internet. Google’s use of the DoubleClick DART cookie is governed by Google’s advertising and content policy. Visitors may opt out of the use of the DART cookie by visiting the Google Ads Settings page.
Third-party vendors and ad networks may also use cookies to serve ads on the Site based on your prior visits. You may opt out of personalized advertising by visiting www.aboutads.info or the industry opt-out pages listed below.
4. Advertising Personalization Controls
Some advertising partners, including Google, may use cookies and other technologies to personalize the advertisements you see. Personalization can make ads more relevant, but you are always in control of how your data is used for this purpose.
You can review and manage your advertising preferences at any time using the following official Google tools:
- Google Ads Settings, https://adssettings.google.com
Manage the topics and categories Google uses to personalize ads, or turn off ad personalization entirely. - Google My Ad Center, https://myadcenter.google.com
A central dashboard to control what ads you see, block specific advertisers or topics, and adjust the information Google uses to personalize advertising for you.
If you would prefer not to see personalized advertising from third-party networks, you can also opt out through the following industry self-regulatory tools:
- Digital Advertising Alliance opt-out (United States)
- Your Online Choices (European Union)
- Network Advertising Initiative opt-out
Opting out does not mean you will see fewer ads, only that the ads you see will no longer be tailored to your inferred interests.
5. How We Use Your Information
We use the information described above to:
- Deliver the newsletter you subscribed to and respond to your messages.
- Understand which articles are useful so we can improve future editorial work.
- Protect the Site against spam, abuse, fraud, and security issues.
- Comply with our legal obligations.
We will never use your personal information for purposes that are not described in this policy without informing you and, where required, asking for your consent.
6. Sharing of Information
We share personal information only in the limited circumstances below:
- With the third-party service providers described in Section 3, strictly to operate the Site.
- If required by law, court order, or to protect the rights, safety, and property of WanderEthic, our readers, or the public.
- In the event of a change of ownership, your information may be transferred to the new owner, who will continue to be bound by this policy.
7. International Data Transfers
Some of our service providers may be located outside your country of residence. When personal information is transferred internationally, we rely on safeguards permitted under applicable data-protection rules, such as Standard Contractual Clauses, to ensure your information remains protected.
8. Data Retention
We retain personal information only as long as needed for the purposes described above. Newsletter subscriptions are retained until you unsubscribe. Contact-form messages are retained for up to three years for reference. Analytics data is retained in aggregate form indefinitely. You can request earlier deletion of your own data at any time.
9. Your Rights
Rights of visitors in the European Economic Area, United Kingdom, and Switzerland (GDPR)
If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and equivalent local laws give you additional rights over your personal data. In particular, you have the right to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority, to withdraw consent for personalized advertising at any time, and to request a copy of the personal data we process about you. Our legal basis for processing analytics and advertising data in these jurisdictions is your consent, which you may withdraw through our cookie preferences.
Rights of California residents (CCPA / CPRA)
If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA), gives you the right to know what categories of personal information we collect and how we use it, to request deletion of that information, to correct inaccurate information, and to opt out of any sale or sharing of personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. To exercise a CCPA/CPRA right, email [email protected] with the subject line “California privacy request”. We do not knowingly sell personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising outside the ad-partner arrangements described in Section 3.
Depending on where you live, you may have one or more of the following rights regarding your personal information:
- The right to access the information we hold about you.
- The right to correct inaccurate information.
- The right to request deletion of your information.
- The right to object to or restrict certain processing.
- The right to data portability.
- The right to withdraw consent at any time.
- The right to lodge a complaint with your local data-protection authority.
To exercise any of these rights, write to [email protected] with the subject line “Privacy request”. We will respond within thirty days.
10. Children’s Privacy
The Site is intended for adult readers. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
11. Affiliate Links
Some links on the Site are affiliate links. When you click one, the linked retailer may set a cookie to attribute a possible commission to us. We never see your purchase details. For full details, see our Affiliate Disclosure.
12. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page and, for significant changes, mention them in the next newsletter.
